NCJW Welcomes New Director of Development

September 27, 2019 Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is thrilled to announce and welcome Catherine Heffernan Gibson as the new Director of Development. Catherine will be responsible for building the Development department, as well as planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive development strategy to increase the NCJW’s revenue in an efficient and sustainable way.

Catherine joins NCJW from the Union for Reform Judaism, where she has served as the Director of Planned Giving, and previously served as the Director of Development for the URJ’s social justice arm, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. Prior to that role, she was the Senior Manager of Major and Planned Giving for the American Association of University Women. In both roles, she revitalized and expanded development departments, instituted change in the way major and planned giving donors are cultivated and stewarded, and worked to connect philanthropists to the organizations.

“I am eager to work on behalf of an institution like NCJW, whose values I share and hold dear, says Catherine, “and specifically to continue to do the work of tikkun olam for a strong and proudly feminist organization.”

Catherine has a deep connection to NCJW. Her grandmother was an Indianapolis section president, and she has strong memories of spending her weekends “untangling hangers in the thrift store.”

“Catherine brings a breadth of experience and deep knowledge of both Jewish and feminist spaces to NCJW, says NCJW CEO Sheila Katz. “She will be a terrific asset to a growing and dynamic team.”

Catherine begins at NCJW in early October.
