House of Representatives Passes Critical Bill for Workers

July 18, 2019, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) today applauded the passage of the Raise the Wage Act by the House of Representatives and demand action from the Senate. Jody Rabhan, NCJW’s Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, released the following statement:

“The bills passed today by the House of Representatives would lift 1.3 million people out of poverty. By increasing a federal minimum wage to $15/hour by 2025, the Raise the Wage Act would benefit more than 33 million workers, the majority of whom are women, people of color, people with disabilities, or LGBTQ individuals. Ultimately this is an issue of economic and reproductive justice.

“Now it’s time for the Senate to act. Instead of merely paying lip service to support workers, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should bring this critical legislation to the Senate floor for a vote. The National Council of Jewish Women will continue to advocate for this bill, integral to our mission to support the lives of women, children, and families.”
