FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Update as of March 26, 2019, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) applaud the reintroduction of the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL). The bipartisan legislation provides a pathway to citizenship for the nearly 2 million young people brought to the United States as children. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:
“President Trump’s administration is engaged in building a mass deportation machine in which no immigrant is safe from detention and deportation. Given this harsh reality, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) believes it is all the more important that Congress enact comprehensive immigration reform, and the DREAM Act is an important first step in that effort.
“The Dream Act will enable young people brought to the United States as children without documentation to live without fear by providing them a pathway to citizenship. Stepping out of the shadows will not only improve the lives of almost 2 million young people but will strengthen families and communities across the country.
“We are all of the equal worth, regardless of our immigration status. NCJW pledges to continue its efforts to pass this bill and achieve much-needed just and humane immigration reform.”
